None of which means it is a laughing matter.
It also means we have a story where the First Doctor is compared to a kiddie fiddler.
And as for A Fix With The Sontarans...

According to the Daily Mail on Friday John Peel has now been dragged into the controversy. Jimmy Savile is clearly a particularly prolific and pro-active example of it however it does seem that it was part of the culture of the time for some men of a certain generation in the entertainment industry to view underage girls as 'fair game' or at least to take a 'don't ask their age' approach.

His own family took back his headstone.
It shows that they don't share this "cultural perspective".

Oh well, I'm sure they were all working class so you don't have to feel sorry for them.

If John Peel played around with underage girls regardless of the differing standards of a past era or if he did it knowingly and also regardless of what else he did in his life (he's one my heroes) we should recognise that it was entirely wrong. However I find the reaction of the media outlets smelling BBC blood post Saville and the BBC itself reeling from Saville totally reactionary and antithetical to the grown up conversation we need about such a serious issue.
While there's no doubt about it the BBC needs to be held accountable for its horrible handling of the Saville affair and especially those involved in the vile culture that seems to have existed during Saville's prime. I think it's really shitty how the Daily Mail are dredging up stuff (I'd known about Peel's Jerry Lee Lewis marriage in America for a long time as it goes.. it is not a new revelation) and basically exploiting a horrific situation in order to attack the BBC, who for the record they don't hate because of sex abuse but because they're publically funded and have a supposed "left-wing bias"
tl:dr basically scoring points for your political agenda on the backs of the victims of sexual abuse= not cool.

Latest news is that Saville molested not only girls but small boys - fully aware such acts were unacceptable as he told one of his victims to stay silent - and there's even evidence to suggest he raped corpses in the hospital morgues.
...
At this rate he'll be revealed to be Jack the Ripper.
