According to the latest news the poor chap may have to resign over this. All he is alleged to have said is "You f**king plebs, best you learn your f**king place, you don't run this f**king government". What on earth is wrong with that. He is a high ranking member of the government and went to a leading public school. As such he has the right to chastise the churlish and lowbrow. Henry VIII and the Duke of Norfolk were both said to have used earthy language to describe 'churls' and no one objected back then.
Also Andrew Mitchell was apparently known as 'Thrasher' at Rugby School because of his love of discipline.

I think the issue is that the Chief Whip is unable to control his temper and is prone to ranting obscenities and insulting plebians instead of, say, DOING HIS JOB? Claiming that monarchs over five hundred years ago were similar is no defense. A government is supposed to work FOR its people, not arbitrarily decide who is "churlish" and "lowbrow".
This thinking is how the Morlocks and Eloi will begin, mark my words.

By spara's logic, the "gay marriage = bestiality" issue is perfectly acceptable...
(You might need to be an Aussie to understand that reference. Look on wikipedia. What am I? Your mother? Work it out yourself!)

Sheesh. Spara...
OK. I will explain to you because you clearly cannot do it yourself.
The motion for gay marriage came up in Australian parliament a week ago and it was turned down. Twice. Shameful, I know. A high-ranking politico said this was good because allowing gays to marry was akin to legalizing bestiality - a comment he had to resign over. But, as he was high-ranking member of government, went to a public school, you say he has the right to air such comments. He thinks homosexuals are churlish and lowbrow.
So, you're basically promoting intolerance and prejudice.
Your parents must be so proud.

There's nothing churlish and lowbrow about homosexuality, look at the greeks, the romans and the beat writers.
I find this issue generally challenging as I dislike both the Tories and the police.. with some exceptions.

Quite so, LBC, which is why the Australian public demanded his resignation - he could not be allowed to get away with such comments because he was a bit posh!
