This is an excellent read. New novel about what may have happened had Halifax become PM in 1940 instead of Churchill. Basically Hitler has won the war.

I read it last week.
Not an original premise, of course - we've already had Fatherland and, before it, The Man in the High Castle.
There have already been complaints in The Telegraph letters page that the depiction of Beaverbrook and Enoch Powell is unfair, whatever their real-life flaws. I suppose the argument would be that, since Sansom refers to this as an alt-universe rather than an alt-history, they don't have to be the same as the real people.
I'm certain that his take on the actual SNP, as outlined in his afterword, would upset some people.
I enjoyed the book to an extent, but found my interest waning by the end: I was disappointed in the final treatment of some of the characters.

Interesting. I've not made much progress with it as I've not had much time to read lately. I must make the effort. Looking forward to seeing what he does to Enoch Powell.
