as a result of getting into Doctor Who? I ask because this is a popular perception among casual viewers ie that once a guy starts to get really into Doctor Who then you begin to look uncool or nerdy and girls turn right off.

Doctor Who has never caused a problem for me in that respect but I have noticed that when I tell girls I'm a fan of My Little Pony they either go "aww" or act really weirded out.

Not in Australia. The fanbase is a 50/50 gender split - any difficulty in forming relationships is down to the individual, as Doctor Who is a respected and venerable institution.
