Doctor Who DVD / Blu-ray Faults and Fixes Guide
The Dalek Invasion of Earth - a CGI correction was made to remove a lorry driving through deserted London. This was intended to be applied only when viewing the story with the CGI option on. An authoring error resulted in the fix appearing whether the CGI option was on or off.
The Celestial Toymaker Part 4 (part of Lost In Time Boxset) – the original opening titles were replaced by ones of a higher quality from The Aztecs. The fade to black comes a moment too late, and a very brief glimpse of The Aztecs is visible.
The War Machines Part 2 - on the opening credits, the "2" caption itself has the four squares to the left of it whereas on the other episodes, and on the VHS, there are no squares, just the numeral itself.
Evil of the Daleks Audio Release Part 1 – 2 Beatles tracks substituted.
The Tomb of the Cybermen Part 1 - lip synch slightly out. Will soon be superseded by Revisitations version.
The Seeds of Death - two film sequences vidfired in error. Will soon be superseded by Revisitations version.
Spearhead from Space - Fleetwood Mac track substituted. Will soon be superseded by Auton boxed set version.
The Claws of Axos Part 4 - a fraction of video missing from the beginning of the episode.
The Three Doctors Part 2- repeated shot of UNIT HQ cliffhanger (R2 only). Fixed for R1 release. Will soon be superseded by Revisitations version.
Carnival of Monsters - the lettering in the opening titles has a slight 'ragged' look, due to the way the images of the letters were captured. Will soon be superseded by Revisitations version.
The Time Warrior Part 1 - credits for Irongron and Bloodaxe left off the end credits.
The Invisible Enemy Part 3 (part of K9 Tales boxset)- cliffhanger in wrong place as two scenes swapped places. Replacements discs issued to people who sent theirs in along with a free copy of The Hand of Fear. K9 Tales shipping now have the corrected Disc.
The Invasion of Time - photo Gallery was designed to have optional info text which was accidentally left off the disc. The subtitles option is on the disc, but it does nothing.
Destiny of the Daleks - missing PDF files of Radio Times listings. Replacements issued to people who sent their disc in (Note: applies to solo issue and as part of The Davros Collection). Destiny of The Daleks shipping now have the corrected Disc.
Castrovalva - missing 5.1 version of the Peter Howell theme video (this was included on the release of Four to Doomsday).
Earthshock Part 1 - in order to gain the best quality sound possible, the cliffhanger was reconstructed from scratch - audio at the end of part one was reconstructed from the master of the theme tune, and the music and sound effects from the reprise of part two - unfortunately, part two had a slightly different sound mix to part one, so the lead in to the end credits has music/effects that shouldn't be there.
Arc of Infinity Part 3 - incorrect font used for some of the closing credits.
Enlightenment Part 1 - Tony Caunter's (Jackson) credit left off the end credits.
The Five Doctors (Original 1999 release) - music option plays at wrong speed. Now superseded by Special Edition version.
The Caves of Androzani Part 2 - crossfade on Revisitations version replaced with a direct cut in error.
Vengeance on Varos - production subtitles disappear halfway through Part 2, at layer change. Fixed for Australian release.
Revelation of the Daleks - Jimi Hendrix music track substituted.
The Trial of a Time Lord Part 1– the sound effect of the door opening on the space station was missed off during the audio remastering.
Delta and the Bannermen Part 2- some characters credited with two actors on the end credits (the actors for Arrex, Bollit and Adlon are correct, but the characters stay the same from the previous credit. So, the characters Murray, Vinny & Keillor are repeated from the previous credit).
Remembrance of the Daleks Part 1- missing extermination effect on soldier, missing smoke effect and music substitutions. All corrected on the 2009 Special Edition Individual re-release. Remembrance of the Daleks (2007 Davros Collection release) - 2 short dialogue holes in 5.1 mix. Replacements issued to people who sent their disc of this version in. 2009 Special Edition Individual re-release fixed everything and is fault free.
Rose - every release aside from the Box Set one has additional music not transmitted when the Doctor and Rose are walking along the Powell Estate.
New Doctor Who Series 1 boxset – World War III - misses a scene unless you select "Play All". Replacements issued to people who sent their disc in. Current 'slimline' version of boxset contains fixed disc.
New Doctor Who Series 2 boxset- incorrect edit of Children in Need episode used (fixed for R1 release).
Blink - a caption, "ONE YEAR LATER" is missing from the original individual DVD release of the episode. The version in the Complete Third Series box set has the caption, at the beginning of the scene where Larry discovers Sally's collection of documents and photo's (38'51" into the episode).
The Unicorn and the Wasp - Music substitution on the episode in the boxed set, original version on the vanilla release.
ALSO:
The Crusade (R1, Lost in Time box) - In one of the two episodes included in this set (not sure which one), there's a bit rate crash which causes picture instability for a while.
The Invasion (R1) - There is a slight green tint on the episodes on the second disc.
The Robots of Death - The caption card was intended to be an Easter Egg, but it was included in the 'Featurette' menu option by mistake. Whether or not this will be corrected on the upcoming SE remains to be seen...
The Stones of Blood - Authoring error causes film noise-like white 'sparkles' over all four episodes, although they're only really noticeable during dark scenes.
Destiny of the Daleks - On the R2 version, there was a misunderstanding by the producer(s) of the optional CGI effects - this resulted in laser bolts appearing to be fired from the Movellan ship, even though the tremors were actually intended to be due to the underground vibrations.
Revelation of the Daleks - An authoring glitch means that on some players, problems (looping, freezing, etc) occur when the point of the first optional CGI effect is reached. This is because some machines don't recognise a 'CGI on/off' value set as default, so they don't know which version to play when this point is reached. This can be solved by making sure they're turned either on or off before you attempt playback.
Remembrance of the Daleks (original release) - Due to the Restoration Team reverting to earlier edits of some sections to slightly improve the quality, some visual effects were accidentally omitted. Also, I believe there were some errors with alternate angle sequences. All corrected on the SE.
The TV Movie (original release) - Not an error as such, but there's a whacking great layer change during the motorbike/ambulance chase sequence, causing a pause for a few moments. The SE doesn't have this problem.
